MSIT fashion students are internationally bound

Friday, 13 December 2013

Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) fashion students wowed judges and guests alike at the MSIT's Creative Industries White Matter Exhibition, hosted at the Mt Gravatt campus on 4 December 2013.

Two students, Elleni Canaris and Pheobe Chan, both studying the Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion were presented with the highly prized 22nd International Award at the 2013 MSIT Fashion Awards Ceremony.

The International Award, valued at more than $4000, was sponsored by the Australia-Japan Foundation and allows the students to fly to Japan and undertake an internship.

MSIT Education Manager for Fashion, Helen Stanley, said the award would help the recipients further their knowledge in the fashion industry.

"Winning the International Award is a fantastic achievement and will allow the fashion students to experience the creative vibrancy of another culture," Ms Stanley said.

"The garments both students entered into the competition were of exceptional standard and quality with Elleni gaining inspiration from contrasts of childhood and Phoebe basing her collection on stained glass windows.

"We hope that their time abroad will fill them with ideas and inspiration for their next creations."

The winners will travel to Japan to take part in an internship and study at one of Japan's leading fashion colleges to exchange knowledge and skills in the fashion industry.

MSIT offers a range of courses in fashion design and technology, clothing production and millinery. For more information please contact our Customer Service Centre on 1300 657 613 or visit www.msit.edu.au.
