Entry requirements

  • English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. Timetables may be available online or may be provided to you at your program orientation.

Your timetable may change every semester and you must be able to manage your commitments to ensure attendance at all your classes.

Timetables will be different across TAFE Queensland locations. This is an example of what a course timetable could look like -  

Monday and Tuesday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Wednesday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Important Information

Blue Card: Commission for Children and Young People Act 2000 (Qld) contains a new law to help ensure that people seeking to work with children are suitable. This is called 'the working with children check'. Any person wanting to work in regulated employment, as a paid employee, a volunteer, or a person carrying on a regulated business, will have to fill out a Blue Card application form consenting to a criminal history check prior to his or her appointment or engagement (See ‘Relevant Documents below). Further details can be obtained at the following link for Blue Card Services or by telephone on 1800 688 275 (Free call).  Students will be unable to attend Vocational Placement until they hold a valid Blue Card.  Once enrolled Students need to make an appointment for the Teacher to sight their ID and sign their Blue Card Services for processing and final approval.  It is to your advantage to have a Blue Card before commencing study.

Southport, Gold Coast:

During 2017/18 our Diploma of Event Management students will be closely involved with the GC2018 Commonwealth Games at grass-roots level, particularly with the epic ‘volunteer orientation event’ in December 2017 which boasts attendance of over 15,000 people as well as other minor events throughout the duration of their studies.

Additionally they may be involved in events with our industry partners who include:

South Bank, Brisbane:

  • The College of Tourism and Hospitality (COTAH) has strong industry connections and is a hub of activity, with frequent visits from Tourism and Event employers to all campuses. We are committed to presenting our students and COTAH in the best light to our industry partners. Therefore, uniforms are compulsory for  all tourism and event students, across all TAFE Queensland Brisbane campuses. Uniforms are to be worn at all times, on and off campus, during theory and practical lessons, and on any excursions. Professional presentation is crucial in any customer-facing role. The uniforms ensure that our students are recognised by industry as being highly employable with impeccable standards of presentation and dress.

Mooloolaba:

  • Uniform: Students will be required to wear a black TAFE polo shirt and black long trousers. These can be purchased from our recommended uniform supplier, Tuff Stuff Discount Workwear, who will be available the first week of study for fittings and payment. Approximate cost of the shirt is $35.
  • Industry visits: Students will also be required to participate in industry visits throughout the course - estimated cost of $100 for entry into these events. This is a non-refundable charge.

Southport, Gold Coast:

  • Uniform: 2 x TAFE Queensland Gold Coast logo’d shirts will be supplied as part of students fees. Students will be required to provide and wear: black business style trousers (male and female), leggings and/or tights will not be accepted, or a black knee length business style skirt. These can be purchased from your preferred outlet or through our supplier Totally Workwear; black enclosed leather non-slip shoes.

Application Process

Applying to TAFE Queensland International is easy. You can submit an application at any time, but get in early as positions are limited. Follow the steps below to apply to study at TAFE Queensland.

Before you apply

  1. Check the evidence required to apply for your visa

    Before you apply to study at TAFE Queensland, you should check what documents and evidence you will need to provide to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) to support your visa application.

    How to check what evidence you will need to provide to obtain a visa:

    • Visit the Student Visa (subclass 500) page on the DIBP website
    • Scroll down to the Document Checklist Tool
    • Select the country listed on your passport
    • Enter 03020E in the Education Provider CRICOS code field
    • Answer the final question: I am one of the following
    • Click the Display Evidence button
    • Read through the Documentary Evidence List to find out what you will need to submit with your visa application

  2. Review Admissions criteria and key dates

    Some courses require you to meet additional entry requirements eg. Submit a portfolio or artwork with your application. Please check individual course requirements via the Course page.

  3. Prepare your certified supporting documents

    If you are an international student applying directly to TAFE Queensland, you will need to include certified copies of the following documents to support your application:

    • Copy of passport
    • Educational certificate and academic records
    • English language test results

  4. Applying as a mature aged student

    Mature age students (at least 21years of age and with work experience/other qualifications) may be admitted into a program without meeting the formal academic requirements.
    The following documentation is required to support your application:

    • Current CV
    • References on company letterhead from current or previous employers

    Where previous study/employment was conducted in English, submit a certified letter from the educational institution/employer confirming the language of instruction/employment was English.
  5. Under 18 students

    International student visa applicants under the age of 18 will only be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. For more information visit Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.

  6. Submit your application

    Submit your application and supporting documents through TAFE Queensland's online application portal or through a TAFE Queensland Registered Agent who can guide you through the enrolment process.

    Note the expiry date for acceptance.

    • Meet all conditions as outlined in your Letter of Offer and Acceptance
    • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of your Letter of Offer and Acceptance
    • Read the International Student Refund Policy
    • Read the TAFE Queensland student rules
    • Pay the tuition fees as stated in your Letter of Offer
    • Pay for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) as stated in your Letter of Offer, or arrange your own OSHC for the duration of your visa.

    Travel to Queensland and attend Orientation

    Once you have received your student visa, you can travel to Queensland ready to attend the TAFE Queensland International Orientation.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation details are emailed to you prior to commencing your studies or they can be accessed via the Orientation Schedule.

Program specific orientations are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
